In more recent times, the New7Wonders campaign aimed to select new Wonders of the World from a vast pool of monuments. Through a monumental poll, 77 choices were narrowed down to 21 candidates, and finally, the seven winners emerged as the latest additions to this prestigious list.

About The Colosseum
The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is an oval amphitheatre located in the heart of Rome, Italy. Constructed between AD 72 and AD 80, it is the largest amphitheatre ever built and stands as an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome. With a seating capacity estimated between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators, the Colosseum hosted gladiatorial contests, animal hunts, mock sea battles, and other public spectacles.
Although it has suffered damage from earthquakes and stone-robbers over the years, the Colosseum remains one of Rome's most popular tourist attractions. The structure has also become intertwined with the Roman Catholic Church, as the Pope leads a torchlit "Way of the Cross" procession in its vicinity every Good Friday. The Colosseum's original Latin name was Amphitheatrum Flavium, and it was built by emperors of the Flavian dynasty.
The name "Colosseum" is believed to have derived from a colossal statue of Nero that once stood nearby. Over time, the statue was modified and became associated with the sun god Helios or Apollo. Despite its pagan origins, the statue came to symbolize the permanence of Rome. In the Middle Ages, the name "Colosseum" became commonly used to refer to the amphitheatre, and it has remained in popular usage ever since.
The Colosseum's significance is evident in its depiction on the Italian version of the five-cent euro coin. In various Romance languages, it is referred to as il Colosseo, le Colisée, el Coliseo, and o Coliseu, depending on the language.
